As a future teacher it is important to know about diversity. You have to remember that diversity is a plus.
In order to have diversity in a classroom it is important that the teacher organizes the class. Otherwise groups who now each other will go together and not mix up. Today we in class were an example of this!
We talked about what you can do as a teacher to show the diversity in a class, here are some examples:
-Stand in one line, ask questions and step forward/backwards.
-Ask questions and stand in different corners.
-Read the same fairytale but in different editions and talk about the differences.
-The students have to bring something important from their home country, something that tells about themselves and their country and then they have to tell about it.
-In class they can talk about the students ambitions.
-In class they can talk about different taste in music.
-Compare lifestyles.
-Make food from different countries which also involves the senses.
-Make in"international evening", inviting the children's parents and play different games.
-Make a map of all the holidays of the student in the classroom.
-You can also read the book "Klædt på til verden" by among others Lillian Rohde for other activities.
If anybody is excluded in a classroom, you as a teacher have to work with diversity - everybody have to be able to work together. If someone is excluded, the learning environment is not optional.
Research shows that if there is different levels in a class - everybody learns from it and not if everybody is at the same level.
As a teacher it is your responsibility to teach your students about diversity. In class you can have a poster like this:
